What a great program idea!

[A]t a Tuesday night rehearsal on August 28 in Belleville, Program VP Bob Cearnal had a great idea. One of the chapter’s members, Steve Martin, was looking for a time and place to “pop the question” to his girl friend. Bob suggested that the proposal could come after the break at the usual time for the evening’s program, and Steve agreed to the plan.

Here’s what they did: Bob told the chorus that on occasion while they are waiting to board their float or man their food booth someone will approach them for a song. They often choose “Let Me Call You Sweetheart,” so Bob asked their director, Doug Brooks, to lead them in the song. Half way through the number Steve went over to his sweetheart and, on bended knee, asked her to marry him. She jumped into his arms and tearfully accepted his proposal.

It was a joyful moment for everyone. That will be a program that will be remembered for a long, long time.
