Due to some shifting spring contest dates, the person we’d originally scheduled to be our head clinician, Melody Hine, will not be able to attend Harmony College Midwest in March. We’d like to thank Melody not only for agreeing to participate in the first place, but also for helping us to find a suitable replacement. Thanks, Melody! We hope to have you at HCM at some point in the future!
As for who will be serving as our head clinician, we searched far and wide before realizing that the perfect candidate was already right in front of us. It’s Will Downey, bass of Gimme Four!
Will is a music educator from Northern New Jersey. He began playing the violin when he was 6 years old and never stopped. He attended Ithaca College as a dual Music Performance and Education major and has worked as an orchestra teacher for 16 years in the Caldwell-West Caldwell schools.
He sang a cappella in high school and college, finding barbershop harmony post-college via the local barbershop chapter, The Dapper Dans of Harmony. Shortly after, his quartet Gimme Four was formed. In the quartet’s long tenure, they’ve recorded two albums, appeared regularly with a big band, opened for Jay Leno, sang in St. Petersburg, Russia and recently placed as high as 2nd at the Barbershop Harmony Society’s International Quartet Competition. He is also the Director of BHS’s Caldwell, NJ Chapter chorus, East Coast Sound. With members of East Coast and the Dapper Dans, he helped to found Jersey Harmony Explosion, a one-day barbershop youth festival in its 8th year of existence. He has served as a clinician at various barbershop education events, including Harmony College East, BHS’s 2021 Virtual Midwinter, the Huntderon Chapter’s “Jersey Sings” and the Central Illinois Youth Festival.
He’ll teach classes, coach quartets, lead our HCM chorus, and more!
Gimme Four is an international silver medalist and CARA Award-winning barbershop quartet based in Caldwell, New Jersey. Paul, Dave, Will and Joe have been singing together since 2011. The quartet was formed out of a mutual love for barbershop harmony, friendship, and a burning desire to reach the highest level possible. Gimme Four has had the tremendous privilege of spending the last decade touring the country competing, performing, teaching, and making lifelong friends. They’ll both perform for us on the evening show and work with quartets during the day.
